What programs are offered for children at this church?
We have so much going on!  Between Sunday School, Children's Church, Wednesday night programs, special events, etc... we stay busy!  Please see our programs page for a comprehensive listing of our programs, and our calendar for upcoming events.

What ages are considered "children"?
Newborns through two year olds are kept in the nursery.  Sunday School divisions are as follows:  2 and 3 year olds, 4 and 5 year old kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades, and 3rd & 4th grades.  Kids in 5th & 6th grade are in the group known as MIDDLE SCHOOL MINISTRY, which is also in the children's department.  Once in 7th grade, kids join the youth group, which is also known as student ministry.  Children graduate from one division to the next on Promotion Sunday, which occurs with the start of the school year in August.

How can I become more involved?
There is so much to be done!  Our children's ministry is dependent on parental/family involvement to stay afloat!  We're always looking for available and willing Sunday School substitutes.  Volunteers teach the Wednesday night classes.  The Children's Church classes are taught on a monthly rotation of parent volunteers, and we'd love to get you in our rotation.  If you don't feel comfortable teaching, come help in another way!  Help make popcorn at a movie event.  Host a party in your home.  Write and send birthday cards to the children.  Vacation Bible School is a great way to get involved.  Don't forget:  you'll need to go through Safe Sanctuaries training in order to work with the kids.  Check the calendar for dates of events, training sessions, and more!

I don't feel comfortable leaving my child.  Can I stick around?
Sure you can!  We welcome your involvement!  Once you and your child get used to our programs and teachers, you'll probably grow in your comfort and begin looking into adult education opportunities.  A great way to stick around is to volunteer!

What will my children be taught at this church?
For heavy theology questions, do a little research at the official United Methdodist Church website.  As you would imagine, the lesson content is dependent on the age groups.  The children are sung to and taught about God and Jesus from birth.  Lessons in the younger classes focus on God's love and simple Bible stories that illustrate Godly love and behavior.  Older groups study the Bible in-depth, reading passages and discussing their application in daily life.  Parents will always be notified about any controversial discussion which might be planned for older groups (social issues, etc.).  Our church is deeply committed to mission work; to that end, servitude, humility, and helpfulness are promoted.  Classes are taught from the official United Methodist Sunday School curriculum, Exploring Faith, in Sunday School.  Wednesday night programs are less lesson-based and more exploration-based.  Younger groups play, sing, create, and read exciting Bible stories while the older groups study the Bible through maps, scripture, competitions, and other high-energy means.  Our kids study hard, learn hard, and play hard!

We attend a church that doesn't have a strong children's ministry.  Can we visit?
Absolutely!  While we certainly do not want to draw people from their own church, we're a growing and vibrant ministry.  We'd love to have visitors from other congregations join us!  And hey - if you see something you like, feel free to start a similar program at your own church... we'll even help get you started!

Can we bring a friend along?
Absolutely.  The more the merrier... it's called fellowship and evangelism.  We love to have extra friends along!

Do you have a child safety policy in place?
You bet.  It's called the Safe Sanctuaries policy.  Our adult staff and volunteers have attended a 2-hour training session on identifying and reporting child abuse, and all have cleared a state background check through the DHR.  We have rules that govern the adult/child ratio for various situations and more policies.  For an abbreviated summary of our Safe Sanctuaries policy, please see our programs page.  For the complete document, please pick one up at the church office during regular business hours.
